Joan Vinall-Cox has taught in the Ontario College System for over 30 years. She received her Ph.D., focused on moving from technophobia to technophilia, in 2004 from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education, University of Toronto. She is passionately interested in teaching and learning, especially about language and how computers can be used to support writing and teaching.

She started teaching in a laptop environment in 1999 and has been involved in study and providing professional development on the use of computers and the Web for pedagogical purposes since then. Her expertise lies not in the technical aspects of computers, but in the communicative and teaching possibilities that can be achieved by helping technophobes transform.

She has co-authored a text on report writing, has had a number of articles published in educational journals, and frequently gives presentations at conferences. Currently, she teaches students at the University of Toronto at Mississauga. She received Sheridan’s Annual Award for Teaching Excellence in 2001.
